<pre>As suggested by Bartosz, I opened the file attached to <a href="show_bug.cgi?id=50916#c86">comment 86</a> in
LibreOffice 6.1.
It gives (as expected) the error message: "The data could not be loaded
completely because the maximum number of columns per sheet was exceeded". Then
Calc opens the file, but only shows (as expected) columns up to 1024.
