This is a Impress enhancement request to allow users to "ungroup"
(Ctrl+Shift+G) imported vector graphics objects into their corresponding
Impress shapes (e.g., lines in the vector graphics figure should be converted
to impress lines with the appropriate color and stroke). This feature exists
for EPS files in MS Powerpoint.
Use case:
I typically use Impress/Powerpoint for academic presentations. Typically, these
presentations involve building slides using already create figures (EPS files).
To build these slides, I typically want animate individual portions of the
imported figures (e.g., animate the x-axis on a graph followed by a separate
animation for the y-axis). In Powerpoint, I ungroup the complete vector
graphics image and then re-group smaller portions of the lines and shapes into
components that I want to animate individually.
The alternative is to build multiple EPS files and import each separately.
Which takes a lot of time.
