In fact, this just confuses the issue more, as you can load styles from a document, not just a template. Perhaps the situation would be to 1) add a note or popup when someone chooses to overwrite styles that only the styles in the template will be overwritten and that the template might not contain all defined styles; or 2) add all styles to the LibreOffice provided templates; or 3) provide an option that on choosing to overwrite styles the program default styles are loaded first, then overwritten by the template styles.
