Given the tests made in that discussion, I'm wondering whether this might have
something to do with transaction management within the SDBC connector.

Are transactions autocommitted with embedded hsqldb when run from the SQL
command line tool in LO or does the SDBC driver somehow pick up the parameter
from the DB as to whether transactions are autocommitted ?</pre>
