Hmm, I've really no problem arranging multiple layers and transparency. Here is
a riff on your sample document with the Lucida Calligraphy 96pt w/Scaled width
75%.
Not seeing an issue, other than there *has* been an export filter change
requiring the transparent layers be separated--here I moved them out of the
default "Layout" layer to a new "Textual_elements" layer.</pre>
