Following up on printer model identifications in comment 16: The problem also
occurred on a Xerox AltaLink C8045 multifunction printer, probably newly
installed, at a Staples store, when printing from a new PDF for text in DejaVu
Serif 8pt prepared in LO Writer. The problem is not visible in the PDF even at
200% of size viewed in my laptop. It is very visible in Xerox's preview at the
printer, showing a streak that probably descended (from my recollection) 10-20
points. It is a little visible, as a distorted "M" on the paper output
resulting from the same session in which I viewed the preview.
