(you got that by double-clicking on the page number field.) The proper way to specify the page number is to edit the page break properties. You can either find this on the page break dotted line, or typically find on the first paragraph after a page break. For the very first page, you find it on the first paragraph's paragraph properties - Text flow. In there you see the option to set page style and Page number.
