Well, although I don't intend to do anything about this, I can certainly confirm that this problem exists, and allowing both possibilities depending on the compatibilityLevel would increase interoperability with MS Word. This is primarily a layout issue I assume. One thing to note is that LibreOffice draws the column divider all the way down the page.
