Second, I've realised that this feature often occurs when I've been deleting unwanted labels - either because I want fewer than 16, or because I'm printing on a partly used sheet of labels; ink printed on the backing isn't absorbed and causes smudges and inky fingers. Because the selection has been deleted, there is nothing for the "Print Selection" feature to print, there is no visibly selected area on the screen, and the print preview comes up blank.
