Tools -> Options... -> LibreOffice -> Online Update; 'on' by default,
has ~no performance impact on the application, as it runs in a separate
thread.

Yes, but only for Windows and MacOSX.  I've enabled it for the official
Linux builds few moments ago too (in LibreOffice, not on the server),
will be available with Beta3.
