I think that as there are quite a few regressions between 3.5 and 3.6 maybe
the update path should be to 3.5.7 and provide the information that 3.6.3
which is considered recommended by TDF is available and provide a link.
Maybe nagging people to switch from 3.5.x to 3.6.3 is too premature?

In any case I believe there should be a "stable channel" and
"beta/development/QA channel" for updates as in Mozilla, as suggested here
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48369

This would allow any user to choose the QA channel to be notified of 3.6.4
rc1 or 3.7.0 rc3 regardless if the installed build is a stable or an rc
build
