List for the bug.

A clear set of repro steps is greatly appreciated (so that we can
triage the bug quickly and get it over to the devs for review).

That sounds like a good enhancement to me -- please write it up in a
bug report and submit it.

I can't make any promises about when it might be implemented, but if
it is a good addition to the Mail Merge process, it's quite likely
that other people will find the feature interesting and may be
encouraged to work on adding the functionality to LibreOffice. If you
have some programming experience and would like to give the work a
shot yourself, I'd be more than happy to introduce you to the devs and
get you started with an EasyHack to give you an introduction to the
code base.
