I had problems to find the right words for it. The distance the screen
center is moved during one zoom step.
For example it might be possible to increase the movement the farer the
mouse is aways from the center but I don't think that it would be a good
idea.

That is a great idea. The zooming out behavior annoyed me a little bit too.
I was thinking about reversing the direction but your idea sounds better.
