Folks, as Emir points out, recent chages were done as  previously it was very
bad on OSX.

The work to add adjustable text weights and sizes was done by Caolán and
Michael M. on bug 80476 -- Start Center sidebar button labels are too large and
vary in size on different operating systems work on backingwindow.cxx

Those commits probably need additional attention. Adding Michael and Caolán.
