This bug fix comes with LibreOffice 4.4 and is mentioned in the release notes
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/4.4) 

Now enabled by default in Writer, in addition to Impress (where it was enabled
since 4.2). Also, the Sidebar now combines the functionalities of the old
“Gallery” and “Styles & Formatting” floating panels, removing a lot of UI
redundancy.
