So in the end we mimic a system behavior for users that doesn't know it?

What I mean is that every OS/DE has its special design and workflow. Somthing
might be really good for the one the other is highly appreciate on the other
system. But it's never a good idea to bring all together. While the search may
be a nice feature it is available out-of-the-box on those platforms where it is
implemented. So let's keep this as it is.
However I believe an extension that adds this feature would be a really good
enhancement. And I wonder if we should include extensions in the bug tracker,
with a workflow similar to EASYHACK where interested people may start to
contribute.
