Recently the table styles have been introduced. And you can change the cell
background per context menu "Table..." or per menu Format > Area.

But the consistency with other modules how to format tables is missing. At
least the sidebar has to provide quick access to the table properties (e.g.
Writer has Paragraph > Background color) and the context menu should be
consistent with other modules (Draw: "Table...", Writer: "Table
Properties..."). 

But we should reconsider the complete workflow in order to improve the UX.
