Probably the only feasible way to have meaningful "geographic" support would be
to adopt some of OSGeo's: GDAL, OGR, and MetaCRS project libraries--and
implement a *limited* set of spatial data formats--probably Esri Shapefile for
vector and perhaps GeoTIFF for raster. Also perhaps incorporate Geospatial PDF
for optional use in the pdfimport and export filter.
This has to be limited or will quickly get out of hand and not be maintainable.
