--- Comment #32 from Bart <bart-dn at tushmail.com> ---
I was also taken by surprise that I had selected "Light Yellow 3" in a
document, saved it as .doc , and to see that the color was changed to "Yellow"
after I had reopened it.

So I hope that I have a useful suggestion. For me as a user everything is much
less surprising if they are visible.

Image "HighlightAndShading.png" gives a photoshopped impression. In this
suggestion Highlighting and Shading can be seen at the same time. Users should
be better aware of the two when both are visible at the same time.

So ... would it be worth a thought to remove:
"Character Highlighting, Export As Highlighting / Shading"
from
   "Tools -> Options -> Load/Save -> Microsoft Office"
and do something like the image instead?

As a user, I am also much happier with less options under "Tools -> Options ->
etc.". I never know if an option is there, and if it's there, I never know
where it's located or what its name is. More than once I clicked all (!) the
boxes and tabs under "Tools -> Options", in various programs repeatedly (!),
only to find that the thing I was looking for, wasn't there.

If the developers don't like this idea, that's fine with me, but if it can be
given a thought, that would be really nice.

I hope that implementing this suggestion leads to less confusion with users, I
hope that less confusion leads to less bug reports, and I hope that less bug
reports leads to less work for the developers. :) :) :)

With this suggestion I did keep in mind that documents can be created in Libre
Office and then sent to MS Word users, that they can go the opposite way, but
also that they can go back and forth all the time.

I don't know if it's better if a user can select both shading and highlighting
at the same time, OR if they should only be able to choose one of the two. If
they can select both at the same time in MS Word, then it may be better for
compatibility to do this in Libre Office too.

Most of all I hope that I made a user-friendly suggestion. :)

(Obviously, I hope it's developer-friendly too. :) )

Thanks again to all the developers for all the time and effort that you are
putting into this.

PS: I had first posted this suggestion in topic 131466. When first posting, I
had not read jmux's comment "Maybe for DOCX documents there should be
explicitly two ways to set the background: highlight and shading, so the user
can be aware of the difference?".
