This will always end up in confusion. Example: left border is blue, right is
red, and you select both - the color picker cannot show the current state
(correct UI solution is to have some indetermined state like known from
checkboxes, which is not perfectly clear to many users). 
The same for Mike's example with the 3rd state for Visible. If only one border
is taken into the current attributes you know for sure what attributes it has.
IMHO, we complicate the workflow with the (IMO) rare use case of
multi-selection.
