Justin made the same comment on bug 113314, and I agree. If you select the
second item in a list and shift+left extend this selection it becomes clear
that this character is a property of the paragraph. And to always select the
full paragraph makes would be lose the desired functionality to replace the
content of a list entry. => NAB
