We discussed the topic in the design meeting. Not much of an advantage and
maybe even too much for users. Spacing between items is too large. Advantage of
the sidebar widget is the double-underlined border, which is often used in
Calc. It would be even better to have a small set of standard items and some
"recently used" or "favorites". Last but not least, if the exercise aims to
consolidate code it might be a lost battle since the current toolbar widget is
used in Writer as well. But the diagonal "borders" are a Calc-only feature. So
the recommendation is WF.
