The reason is that when you have an object or image selected, it automatically
activates the Selection option in the PDF dialog Range options. This was
changed in:
https://git.libreoffice.org/core/commit/f50363c7008c239d302944144beb256de6a55f38

Let's ask UX team, if they have ideas on this. Could there be some more
noticeable indication that you are only exporting the selection?
