If you click at the header/footer area a light blue context menu is shown. This
menu contains the commands Insert Page Number and Insert Page Count. Is this
enough?

I guess that the context of footer/header is not different from the ordinary
text area and adding a Fields... command would therefore appear in both
situations.

Consider also that adding fields is assigned to the F2 shortcut (not working on
Linux/KDE as it is occupied by the desktop).

Using "More Fields..." does the trick :-)
