No need for a document here.

Request for a search is bug 43511.

About sorting we have bug 104255 talking about headings specifically, but I
suppose it would cover all items in the Navigator.

The third idea is displaying line numbers for items (tooltip? on the side?).
Let's ask UX team about this.
