If this is really just about playing a sound on insertion/deletion, I
personally don't see a huge gain in the use cases I can think of right now
either.

Can you describe the use cases/workflows and advantages of this a bit further?
I just quickly tried with Word ("Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version
2211 Build 16.0.15831.20220) 64-bit") on Windows 10 22H2). Activated the
feature according to [1] and it's unclear to me how to know or configure on
what events a sound is played. I see nothing specific for Word/MSO in control
panel's "Sound" -> "Sounds".
If the idea is that there is a generic way for apps to integrate into the
Windows sound configuration by providing modules or somesuch (similar to what
is e.g. possible in KDE Plasma's notification configuration that allows for
app-specific modules), some documentation on how to integrate into that would
be useful. (Or is this something Microsoft-specific and third party apps can't
get integrated into this, but would have to implement their complete own
handling of sounds,...?)
