Remembering the prefix solves the problem where users scroll through the
options but I don't buy the use case. You may exactly want to use None with
some prefix (sure, there might also be situations where you don't) - and any
modification is unwanted.

You probably mean settings made in a previous session. Sounds like a lot of
work for no good reason.
