We discussed the topic in the design meeting and decided to follow Romans
suggestion to not enable the subtotals by default. The feature is easy to
enable once you know how to do it, for sure the dialog can be improved a lot,
which is discussed in other tickets. The majority of users seem to be happy
with the current implementation. And in case of many groups the decision for
which one a subtotal is needed should be decided manually anyway.

However, if more users request a subtotal sum by default this might be
reconsidered.
