This topic was analyzed by a group of students as a university course.

Based on user research they recommend essentially to have full access to all
options vs. a simplified variant (landing page was rejected in bug 130083; for
the opposite, to show all modules, see bug 101609). Regarding what is advanced
and what simple, the students took information from previous work at

Second recommended approach is to add a search bar (bug 49895).
