Bug 84198 was filed before we added the modification status to the save icon.

Also it complains that the status bar thing does is not visible enough, which
got solved by adding an indicator to the Save button in the toolbar.

Sure, that's a valid feature request.

Yes :)

As this indicator serves no purpose any longer it should be completely removed
in favor of a cleaner UI.
