In other words a variable tab stop position depending on the number of digits
in the level. That might be not so easy since the tab stop thing is not a per
item option, AFAIK.

What I could imagine is some option to automatic adjust the tab stop for all
items depending on the largest number.

|      abcdef
| 10.  abcdef
|      abcdef
| 100. abcdef
|      abcdef

Which, again, works out of the box up to level 99.
