I can see the problem
1. Open attachment 194326
2. Place cursor into index -> edit index
It's only possible to select or deselect "number entries", but you can't
combine it with showing entries.
But I also don't understand the order of entries in the index. It has
john vs doe
Cat vs dog
but since it is sorted "Alphanumeric", I would expect
Cat vs dog
john vs doe
I miss also information in help page about "Formating of the Entries" and
"Sort", see

So perhaps design team can give some insights
