It appears to me we have exactly what you are asking for. Use my Formatted
Dummy Text [1] and add some numbers at the Arabic text. The caret indicator
goes leftwards for the Arabic text and rightwards for the Latin numbers.

Btw, you need to have mixed content in the paragraph. Otherwise the caret will
be straight. => NAB/WF
