Sorry, off list we determined that this is 
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30729
i.e. the bugs that affects OOo and LibO where if the "old" opensymbol is
installed on the system then it may be picked up instead of the "new"
opensymbol and you get the above problem.
