Finally got a new fix out, see

With the one old commit from this thread still relevant, that means

...and this time, I /did/ test on Windows 3.6, too. -- Lets keep fingers 
crossed...

Petr, Björn, Rene:  With that fixed, prereg-affected Linux distros can 
probably undo
