Hello,

Concerning fdo#53320 LibreOffice 3.6 will not open on OS X 10.7.5 and
Mountain Lion with "unidentified developer" error - GateKeeper
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53320
here are some thoughts that I hope not too stupid/naive/...

After having leafed through these:
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Mac-OS-10-4-Support-td3190288.html
(a 2011 but very interesting thread about this!)
and noticed this too in
http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/minutes-of-ESC-call-td4023110.html:
        + Mac / 10.4 / PPC dropping (Norbert)
                + document: deprecate 10.4/5 and raise base-line to 10.6 ?
+ just needs adding to the wiki.

Perhaps if dropping 10.4 support can't be done for the moment, what about a
new MacOs build not compatible with 10.4/10.5?

Pros:
- signature will be ok for sure with new one
- we show that with an extra effort, we're still be compatible temporarily
with old MacOs version and we can propose new things for version > 10.4/10.5
- it's possible to begin to develop features which need > 10.4/10.5 on new
one
- other?

Cons:
- harder to maintain code. Should some #DEFINE be sufficient and so, it
wouldn't be so much harder?
- extra QA needed. I must recognize I don't realize how much extra time it
would need and this could be a real problem since there are very few Mac
users in QA teams and they already do a great job.
- translation work? (would it be x2?)
- other?
Presence of both MacOs build packages would be there only for not longer
than 1 year

I suppose I forget lots of things so, don't hesitate to give your pros/cons.

Julien

PS: perhaps the fact to have a new major version with 4.0 should have been
a good occasion to drop support for 10.4 (10.5?). Some softwares did things
like this and it seems people can understand this if you propose features
only compatible with new versions. Anyway, this can be forgotten since it's
too late to consider such an option.
