I will also add...that LibreOffice's approach to a complicated build... has
legs and could be marketed as a buid system for complicated apps, that are
cross platform.  Especially if it removes cygwin from its equation.

@Robinson: Can you document/discuss that workflow with the QA team (aka:
keyword
"bisected" -> we think its this _one_ commit?). It might be helpful and
could
then be used on other components too.

(Note: I only walked through the writer regressions).
