Bug 89387 - improve performance for some matrix operations

hi everyone,
I m working on Bug 89387 - improve performance for some matrix operations.
I have two questions about it:
--1 has anybody some material that can help me to understand mdds library
?(some example, some pdf ......)
--2 what are the tool for profiling like callgrind?
