To clarify what Robert is saying here.

LightDM only performed *timed autologins* the first time it started [1].
This was changed to perform the timed login every time that you are
returned to the greeter in LightDM 1.10.3 and 1.12.

So an acceptable workaround might be to enable a timed login with a timeout
of 1 second (the minimum allowed).
