[LightDM] locale, encoding, passwd

Hi,

In, for example the xfce4-terminal, by menu, I can set the (input & output) encoding.
This means that when I press on the keyboard some non-ascii key, what text will be generated. (If utf8 is the encoding 
then for non-ascii letters a 2-byte sequence will be generated.)

I could not find (so far) such or similar configuration options in Lightdm (or its greeter).
Does it have such, and where is it?
Or if not, what is the method to tell lightdm (or the greeter?) to use the good locale (locale's encoding)?
(I have set the global locale with the usual method, via /etc/default/locale. The xfce4-terminal recognizes it, and 
starts with that encoding [which can be later changed from menu as I mentioned].)

I do not know for sure my greeter, maybe "gtk+". (As I use xfce.)


Why is it crucial to lightdm ('s greeter?) and an (arbitrary) terminal to have tha same encoding?
- Because if it differs, then the user will set his/her password with "passwd" in a terminal, with encoding "A" -- and 
will be prompted for the password in the greeter, with encoding "B", and the "entered password" will NOT match! (It is 
experience.)

(I use recent Xubuntu (which is Ubuntu plus xfce4).)
