autoconf works fine, all dependencies are met with extensive use of sid
packages and make halts with the following error:

/usr/bin/ld:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.7/../../../../lib/libxcb.a(xcb_conn.o):
relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata' can not be used when making a shared
object; recompile with -fPIC
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.7/../../../../lib/libxcb.a: could not read
symbols: Bad value
