Daniel, I hid away on the prospect of bisecting. :)
But fortunately it does not seem to be necessary anymore. After
1) Downgrading the Debian mesa packages from my self compiled 9.0.1 ones to
the official 8.0.5 ones, in order to make KWin happily use OpenGL effects again
instead of falling back to XRender and
2) Compiling mesa git master from 1fe007399c1ed28b8cef9d4f040164480423f2c9
the hangs seem to be gone.
Maybe the V4 patch of Kenneth regarding the BLORB thing removed a hang?
Whatever: PS is playable beautifuly in Full HD on this ThinkPad T520 with
Intel Sandybridge HD 3000 graphics.
