As for Emil Velikov's answer:
Those hacks slipt in gradually over time.
Some (LDFLAGS) are for llvm (IIRC mostly because the statical build 
which in turn was implemented because of some really annoying errors 
caused by shared libs...). Unfortunately i dont have the time to debug 
them now.
