Hello Jason,
I checked OpenGL 3.3 spec to see what it says regarding this case and this
float to non-normalized integer conversion (and viceversa) is not supported.
Section 3.8.3 Texture Image Specification:
[...]
The error INVALID_OPERATION is generated if the internal format is integer and
format is not one of the integer formats listed in table 3.3; if the internal
format is
not integer and format is an integer format; or if format is an integer format
and type
is FLOAT, HALF_FLOAT, UNSIGNED_INT_10F_11F_11F_REV, or UNSIGNED_-
INT_5_9_9_9_REV.
Section 4.3.1 Reading Pixels:
Obtaining Pixels from the Framebuffer
[...]
If format is an integer format and the color buffer is not an integer format;
if the color buffer is an integer format and format is not an integer format;
or if format is an integer format and type is FLOAT or HALF_FLOAT, the error
INVALID_OPERATION occurs.
Both quotes are based on GL_EXT_texture_integer extension which is part of
OpenGL 3.3 core profile. More info here [0].
We even need to modify next patch "mesa: Autogenerate format_unpack.c" to
don't autogenerate the respective unpacking functions which, by the way, are
currently wrong because we didn't take into account the non-normalized case...
so they use normalized integer code for non-normalized integer formats :-(
We did not notice this latter error before because piglit did not test those
functions. So that patch would need another review too.
We are going to send a new version of the patches with all these issues
addressed (including the rest of v3's feedback), once you confirmed that I am
not missing something.
Thanks,
Sam
