I suppose you want to play it safe and keep it the way it was. In practise
though this would suffice:

      src.mt = NULL;
      dst.mt = NULL;
      depth.mt = NULL;

Any logic trying to access the surface checks for the existence of the miptree
pointer first - if it isn't there, the surface is regarded unused.
