Nitpick: since it's being changed, can it be
$XDG_CACHE_HOME/mesa-shader-cache instead of
$XDG_CACHE_HOME/mesa_shader_cache? I have seen both dashes and
underscores in the wild, but dashes tend to be more frequent.
