A couple major intentions, mainly to produce better code for avx512:

* hide the differences in masking operations - avx/avx2 uses a normal ymm register for masking, while avx512 has separate mask registers

* allow reduced vector width operations to be implemented in terms of avx512 code, so that a larger register set and mask registers can be used

Sorry, had a patch for this ready to go Friday, but we were working through some other issues and I forgot to send it to the list.  I’ve done so now.
