questions regarding project ideas

dear sir/mam,
i am new to open source and want to get involved, the project ideas- piglit
for VA API , piglit for openMAX and unit and performance tests for VA API,
these seem to be the once i should go with as a beginner, i know beginner
level c and python , i wanted to ask how should i start my open source
journey ?
