Tapani, thanks for looking into this.
And, yes, Android apps must stop drawing when the framework destroys the
window due to an activity pause. In some of Google's NDK samples, you can see
how the app is supposed to pause rendering, and sometimes even
destroy/recreate the EGLSurface, on certain events. In particular,
activity pauses in
https://github.com/googlesamples/android-ndk/blob/master/native-activity/app/src/main/cpp/main.cpp.
trigger event APP_CMD_TERM_WINDOW, which requires recreation of the
EGLSurface on resume.
