Ah! OK. That was non-obvious. I've installed the mesa-demos port now,
and I've run glxinfo. I'm attaching its output at the end.
It does appear to say "Mesa 7.4.4"... and yes, I just checked for myself,
and that _is_ really rather long in the tooth, isn't it?

Yes. Thank you. That would appear to be the proper course of action.
(Sadly, it appears to me that at the present time, there may perhaps
be _nobody_ who is actually maintaining the FreeBSD port of this stuff...
DRI/Mesa in particular. That certainly seems consistant with that fact
that the FreeBSD port has apparently not been updated since circa June,
2009.)
Anyway, thanks for the help. In addition to filing a FreeBSD bugreport,
I'll probably try also yanking down a copy of the latest sources for this
and then hand build/install it myself and see if that makes things any
better.
